One of the first, and coolest, factions in Sports Entertainment was The Four Horsemen. This stable was a powerful group that ran roughshod over WCW and lasted for the better part of a decade with its various members, including 16-time World Champion "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair (the constant among the Four Horsemen) as well as other members: Arn Anderson, Ole Anderson, Tully Blanchard, Barry Windham, Sting, Lex Luger, Brian Pillman, Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, and more.
This release covers the creation of the Horsemen group, with interviews from many of the superstars that were part of it, as well as rivalry highlights and complete matches. The Four Horsemen has long been one of professional wrestling's most well-known and popular factions, serving as inspiration for the creation of numerous new age professional wrestling groups (the nWo, D-Generation X , Evolution, and more).

ReviewsAverage Customer Rating: Based on 14 reviews. Write a reviewRating: - Horsemen 4Ever Reviewer: derek from new westminster, British Columbia I've bin an NWA/wcw fan since 1992 but saw the earlier stuff, I loved this dvd my only complaint is there isn't any Benoit or Malenko matches, I know they focused more on the other Horsemen, but 1 Benoit or Malenko match, or even a couple of Hennig promo's would of bin nice, but other then that this dvd's still a must bye for any Flair, Arn, Horsemen, NWA/wcw fan, or Wrestling fanRating: - My Favorite Faction Of All Time! Reviewer: David from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico The Four Horsemen were better than NWO and DX and that DVD is another personal favorite of mine because of that faction.Rating: - Almost Perfect Reviewer: James from Middx, Other I've been a NWA/WCW fan since 1989, and Ric Flair and the Horsemen were always at the top of my list!
So as you can imagine this was the DVD I was most anticipating!
I must admit to being slightly let down.
While I love watching the documentary, I was dissapointed to find no interviews with Sid or Ole Anderson.
Another note that irritated me was having found out that the interviewer told Roma that Flair and Anderson had bitched about him just to get a heel for the DVD.
The final point that irritated me was Anderdons tendency to Kayfabe events, which is an insult to wrestling fans in 2007.
As with any other WWE DVD the list of extras is poor, but it is well worth a watch, and well worth the money...Rating: - Great set, but... Reviewer: Eric from Central Point, Oregon I was "introduced" to professional wrestling in 1984 through hours of pre-recorded Georgia Championship Wrestling. My best friend had a 12 foot satellite dish, and we watched wrestling from all across the country (World Class from Dallas, AWA from the Midwest, Crockett from Georgia and the Carolinas, etc...). Back when I was stupid enough to think that wrestling was 100% real brutality, I learned to despise the Four Horsemen. They were cocky, arrogant, and ruthless. The only problem was, they were as good as they were mean. When they showed the footage of the Horsemen "breaking" Dusty's wrist, I seriously wanted to see them arrested and put in prison. Of course, now I know better, and can look back on the Four Horsemen as the elite wrestling stable of all time. DX, the nWo, Nation of Domination and Evolution put together can't compare to the originals. This DVD set does a really good job of paying tribute to the best, and showing the younger viewers what a heel group should be. On the other hand, I think some matches and promos were left off that could've made this set a solid 5-star effort. There was the Chris Benoit-Kevin Sullivan match at Great American Bash 1996, where Arn (who was supposedly Kevin's friend) comes down to ringside, seemingly to join Kevin in beating up a fellow Horseman. Then, after ripping Chris off of Kevin, he proceeds to kick the sh** out of Kevin, with Chris joining in. This was a turning point in the reformation of the Horsemen 1996 style, into what I think was #2 or #3 best Horsemen grouping ever. But the single most egregious ommision is not putting the entire Arn Anderson retirement speech on here as an extra. My only thought is that WWE said if that speech goes on the set, then the nWo parody from the next week's Nitro goes on as well. Well, despite the little nit-picks, a great set overall. Now maybe we can work on getting Arn in the Hall of Fame!Rating: - Diamonds are forever... Reviewer: Manuel from San Diego, California and so are the Horsemen. Amazing DVD!!! I've been watching WWF/WWE since 1994, so I'd like to think I know alot of that companies history, but when it comes to NWA, I love learning new things. This DVD will make you gain a new appreciation for this elite group.Rating: - Woooo! Reviewer: Joseph from Cudahy, Wisconsin This was one of the most anticipated DVD releases of the year for me, mostly because at the inception of the Horsemen in the early to mid 80's, I didn't get to see much of any NWA wrestling or even that much of early WCW(my Dad wasn't too much of a wrestling fan...). My first memories of the horsemen unfortuntely were after Tully had left the group and I can see how much better they were with Tully, although I did enjoy some of the new horsemen after Tully. This is another must own DVD. The matches and promos are outstanding, and I felt they did a good job of telling the story of the horsemen. The only thing stopping me from giving this DVD five stars was the fact that there wasn't enough matches or promos, I know WWE has shelves full of this stuff with the acquisition of the WCW library. I guess that means that there is more horsemen stuff to look foward to. Let me finish by saying "Diamonds are forever, and so are the Four Horsemen!"Rating: - FLAIR AND THE 4 HORSEMEN Reviewer: Lenny C. from MEMPHIS, Tennessee I REALLY ENJOYED ALL OF THE DVD AND, FOR ANYONE WHO WANTS TO KNOW THE REAL HISTORY OF THE GROUP, THIS IS THE ONE TO OWN!! I DID SEE SOME THINGS THAT BOTHERED ME. ONE WAS ARN IN ALMOST TOTAL KAYFABE KINDA BOTHERED ME. THERE IS A TON OF HORSEMEN PROMOS THAT I FEEL COULD HAVE BEEN USED, I LIKED SOME OF THE CHOICES OF MATCHES NOT ALL, BUT SOME. I WILL SAY TO THE FLAIR AND HORSEMEN LOVERS OUT THERE......6 WORDS....GET IT,GET IT,....GET IT!!!!!!!! Rating: - Ric Flair and The Four Horsemen Reviewer: rodriques from virginia beach, Virginia I was told three years ago that wwe was making a horsemen dvd. Well everyone this is the greatest wrestling dvd the wwe has put together. This is how you tell a story about a group who caused so much havoc and had a lifestyle many men dream of that is second to none. I am 28 and I remember waiting every saturday to see if Dusty, Magnum T.A., the Road Warriors, Ronnie Garvin, Nikita Koloff, the Rock and Roll Express get there revenge on the Horsemen. I will never forget when they broke Dusty's leg, beating Magnum to a bloody pulp, breaking Sam Houston's arm, Ronnie Garvin's hand, Ricky Morton's face and broken nose and the big one jumping the Road Warriors. I wish they would have shown Dusty's revenge on injuring Ole's leg, The first war games match even though I have the match on VHS(Great American Bash 87),and the footage of them losing the belts to the Midnight express(I have the match in its entirely on a dvd from someone who shot the match from his own camara at the philly civic center). I will never forget when Barry Windham joined the horsemen. I was furious when that happened. It was on World Championship Wrestling show on TBS when Barry and Lex Luger gave Arn and Tully there rematch from clash of the champions. I really enjoyed the Dusty-Barry feud because they made it look real. I wish the feud would have lasted longer. I remember when ronnie garvin knocked out Dusty to help Barry win. To me the best version was the original because that group done the most damage. The version with Barry was the most successful but only lasted about 5 months because Arn and Tully went to WWE. That was messed up when Ric was not notified until the last minute that he was part of the Turner deal. If he would have left with Arn and Tully, there would have been no WCW at all. I have met some of the horsemen members over the years. Steve McMichael in 1997, Ric Flair in 2004, Tully Blanchard and J.J. Dillon in 2006. My friend Alfattah and i will tell you so much history on the horsemen. Hampton Roads, Virginia(va.beach, norfolk, hampton, richmond, chesapeake, portsmouth, newport news) is also horsemen country. When people ask me what is my favorite wrestling match, it is the first war games. My favorite feud is the horsemen vs. dusty, nikita, and the road warriors. magnum vs. nikita is second. I just hope the World Class dvd is good because I own the dvd on the fall of world class that highspots has and wwe have a lot of work to do to top that one.Rating: - Thorough and magical. Reviewer: Ian from Southfield, Michigan Simply put, I've been waiting for this DVD my entire life.
To much of the wrestling-watching populace, the first time any of the original Horsemen came across the radar was when Bobby Heenan introduced Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard as "The Brain Busters" to dead silence on Wrestling Challenge in late 1988. This is a shame.
To a larger percentage of the viewing populace, the only thing they know about the Horsemen is that Flair, Benoit and Anderson all held some form of membership in the group. This is a far greater shame.
Quite simply, this DVD set reveals why every collection of wrestling talent is compared to the Horsemen and why none have measured up to the comparison. In two of its first three incarnations, the Horsemen were a collection of four of the greatest wrestlers, workers and promo men in the wrestling business, and the chemistry that their legitimate friendship created only strengthened the performance level of the collective group.
This is a welcome trip down memory lane for those who loved the Horsemen's rise to power in the Mid Atlantic region. It is a telling look at how corporate influence cannot reproduce what was once made magical by the talent, drive and friendship of four individuals thinking individually and acting collectively toward a single goal.
Finally, it's nice to see Tully Blanchard finally get his due. Time and his absence from WCW erased the fact that he was the #2 man in the original group of Horsemen, nearly always the holder of the belt second two Flair's in the group. The documentary also puts over how it was his absence from later incarnations that contributed to the group never coming close to realizing its potential ever again.
The disk is criminally low on extras and matches, considering that these performers would turn even their squash matches into entertaining 3-star affairs. In fact, the use of the term "Two Disk Edition" on the front leads me to believe that the WWE is going to gouge us by putting out a "Three- or Four-Disk Edition" later on. And, yes, I'd get that, too.Rating: - Reviewer: Chris from Ottawa, Illinois I really wanted to give this dvd 5 stars, but the matches were okay at best. If you are going to show the wargames, show the first and best one from 87 and I wish they would of used the guest commentary option on at least the matches that don't have any commentary. The history of the horsemen on disc 1 is awesome and worth the purchase, but could of used better matches on disc 2.Rating: - Pure gold Reviewer: Joseph from Louisville, Kentucky After so many were so criticial of the DVD before it was even released, I'm happy to say this could be the best piece of work WWE has released so far. The documentary was lengthy, but that was a good thing with no corner cut and most of it being very candid (Flair: "If Vince had us Hogan would have been the first match on the card." Love that!) For the smarks out there is some kayfabe (almost all by Arn who to this day protects the business) but Ric, Tully ,J.J., Dusty and others laid it all out. The Paul Roma segment was interesting given the fact that guy never drew a fly to a card yet had the audacity to run down Flair & Arn. I guess when you spend most of your career on the C-list you get pretty bitter.
On the match selection those turned out to be better than they first appeared on paper. The Flair/Ricky Morton cage match was pure gold and should have been released by Crockett back in the day. The use of the Crockett master tapes by WWE has been wisely chosen in the last couple of releases. I also got a big kick out the extras with the stories told by the Horsemen members. Some of the questions I had over the years were unexpectedly answered also.
I could nit pick about the lack of a third disc, but as JR said they will hopefully be releasing much more in the future. I'm still waiting for that Ric Flair Ultimate Colection Vol. 2!
Diamonds are forever, and so will be the legacy of the Four Horsemen. Rating: - Ric Flair and The Four Horsman Reviewer: Alfattah from Norfolk , Virginia I purchased this DVD yesterday and I can honestly say the WWE didn't mess this one up I guess probably because like Jim Ross said Ric Flair and the Horseman wasn't something that the WWE created like they did with Hogan...... The true down fall to the old NWA and Jim Crockett promotions was there lack of drive and vision from the suits not the athletes.... And yes some of the guys the tried to throw in the Horseman like Paul Roma who was getting beat down every week and Sid Vicious were jokes.... I'm 33 and an old school fan from that good area of wrestling and to me personally the Horseman died when Arn & Tully left for the WWE..... The best version was the one with out a shadow of a doubt with Barry Windham because you had 4 champions that could really wrestle........ There are only 3 other DVD that can be considered classics making this the fourth but this goes on the top of the list, Ric Flair and The Four Horseman, Ric Flair The Ultimate Collection, The DVD on The Road Warriors and then Bret Hart's DVD....... those get 5 Stars and every thing else the WWE has put out get 3-4 stars and thats a stretch...... If you are a true wrestling fan and a fan of The Four Horseman you will not be disappointed.....Rating: - horsemen forever Reviewer: melvin from cayey, Puerto Rico my friend this dvd rules. it tells the entire history of horsemen.from ole anderson to malenko/benoit.disc 2 has house show matches never seen before.i my opinion it should have been 3 disc set.ric flair and the four horsemen has lot of history in wrestling and more footage of matches should have been showed/Rating: - Ric Flair and the Four Horsemen Reviewer: James from Dobson, North Carolina Excellent history of the Horsemen, covering each member and version, with no rewriting the history like Vince trys to do some these. Great insight, the matches were all really good, but certainly could've done alot more with the matches. Wonderful DVD overall and Highspots is the place to get it from! |
